RIVERMEN LOOKING TO SECURE SECOND PLACE IN FINAL WEEKEND OF REGULAR SEASON

Township of Langley, BC (Friday, February 27, 2015) – The most important weekend of the regular season starts tonight for the Langley Rivermen (28-22-1-5=62) who can still finish in second or third place in the Mainland Division depending on their outcomes in their final two games against the Prince George Spruce Kings (26-23-1-6=59).

The Rivermen were a goal away from clinching a first-round home playoff series last week against Salmon Arm but fell short in double overtime 4-3 to the Silverbacks. Marcus Vela scored all three goals for Langley.

The Rivermen lead the season series versus the Spruce Kings (4-2-0-1) and picked up an important two points in their last meeting last Thursday when they defeated Prince George 4-3 in overtime as Captain Kevan Kilistoff scored the winner.

If Langley ties or wins one of their remaining two games, they will lock up second place in the Mainland Division, something that won’t be an easy task in the Prince George Coliseum, where the Rivermen split their two meetings back in October. Langley has struggled in the month of February as they are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games.

The Spruce Kings have also had their share of troubles, as they have been without a few of their key players for the second half of the season. Their leading scorer for the early part of the season Justin Rai is out of the season with an upper body injury and defenseman Karan Toor has been out since October with a lower body injury. Both players are committed to NCAA Division schools next season. Despite that, the Spruce Kings can overtake Langley for second spot if they win both games in regulation. Prince George can also finish in fourth if they lose both games in regulation and Coquitlam wins both games this weekend.

The 2015 BCHL playoffs begin on March 3rd.

Puck drop for both games are at 7:00PM PST at the Prince George Coliseum. The games can be heard online at www.mixlr.com/langley-rivermen/
