The Rivermen are proud to announce we will be accepting donations for entry into our exhibition games for the Langley Youth Homelessness Initiative. There were 162 youth homeless or at risk of being homeless last year. In Langley, there is NO shelter for them to go to.
“Right now, a youth in Langley has to go to Surrey or Abbotsford for a place to sleep if he/she is without shelter. And then find their own way to school the next day. This is extremely difficult for ANYONE to do, let alone a youth. And what makes it worse, is that our kids at risk need to go line up for a bed right after school …so there is no chance for them to hold down a part-time job or be involved in extra-curricular activities. It truly saddens me to see our youth stuck in these situations and having to be completely responsible for themselves. We NEED a shelter here, especially with 162 (Encompass, 2015) youth homeless or at risk of being homeless (couch-surfing) last year” Lenny Yun-Brookswood Secondary Leadership Teacher – Langley School District
