Omaha’s rising star Lincoln Hjelm finds new home with Langley Rivermen.
Langley, BC – July 31, 2023 – The Langley Rivermen are excited to announce the signing of center Lincoln Hjelm, a skilled young player from Omaha, Nebraska, committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha after his time with the Rivermen. This latest addition underlines the team’s emphasis on identifying and integrating exceptional talent into their roster.
Head Coach Burt Henderson expressed his excitement about the signing, “Hjelm’s performance and consistent growth at the Northstar Christian Academy underline his potential as a dynamic addition to our team. His scoring record is impressive and we’re looking forward to seeing him bring that same energy and talent to the ice for the Rivermen.”
Hjelm, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 170 lbs, has made his mark on the ice at a young age. He was a consistent force with Northstar Christian Academy’s 16U AAA team, amassing 51 points in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
Tyler Kuntz, Associate Head Coach, echoed this sentiment, “Lincoln came highly recommended from his coaches at UNO. Lincoln grew up in an area not known for hockey. He credits his ability to watch, learn and study the game at higher levels as being key to his development in addition to his past coaches, mentors and his parents. He comes from a great family with high character. Lincoln’s a solid 2 way forward with high compete and skating abilities. He’s a natural centre that wins draws and loves to put d-men on their heels with intense forechecking. He possesses a quick release and can make plays. He’s a leader as he was the captain of his team last year. He’s a young and exciting player that will grow and develop within our program and we look forward to having him on our team.”
Curtis Fraser, Head of Hockey Operations, shared his thoughts on the newest addition, “Signing Lincoln highlights our commitment to finding and integrating top talent into our roster. We’re thrilled to have him join us, and are excited about the potential he brings.”
