From Canucks Autism Network:
“This CAN family from Langley have two young boys on the autism spectrum who are huge hockey fans!
So when the Langley Rivermen were looking for someone to drop the puck on their Autism Acceptance Game this past weekend, we knew exactly who to ask!
In addition to special opportunities like this, the team received autism training, which gave them the knowledge to eliminate buzzers & horns and pre-game strobe lights.
Thank you to the entire Rivermen organization for making this game inclusive and welcoming for fans with sensory sensitivities!”
“Taking my son to the Langley Rivermen game was unforgettable. The energy was exciting, but not overwhelming. He loved watching the action on the ice!
After the game, he had the chance to skate with the players. He was a bit hesitant, but the players were incredibly patient & encouraging. They helped him feel comfortable, showing him some tricks & making him feel included.
His face lit up with joy & confidence as he skated alongside his hockey heroes. It was more than just a game — it was a heartwarming moment of connection and acceptance that left us with cherished memories.”
🥰 THIS is what it’s all about! THANK YOU to the Rivermen for creating lifelong memories & meaningful inclusion through understanding, acceptance & support!”
